Unable to connet using Wordpress for Android 2.1

  1. Hi,

I have a new blog created on a QNAP NAS Box using Wordpress. I can access the blog using browsers on my laptop and mobile devices. However, it's a shame the app Wordpress for Android (developed by Wordpress) cannot connect to the blog. Can you please comment?

    My blog address is http://www.waimun88.com/wordpress

The error message is " Could not connect. Please enter the full path to xmlrpc.php on your site and try again".

Of couse, I tried many other combination and I am sure I enter my user name and passwords correctly but still fail to get it connected. Please advise.

  2. I'm trying to view your site. When I try Chrome is responding with this error:
"Chrome could not connect to waimun88.dyndns.org"

Maybe something isn't configured correctly with your host?

  3. I have a similar issue with my blog at njmediagroup.com/site2. When I login via Android using this exact site name I get "Could not connect. Please enter the full path to xmlrpx.php on your site and try again." the file is in this hosted directory.

I'm using the site admin username to connect, but also tried the FTP credentials.

Please let me know what can be done.
    Joe

  4. Do you guys have XML-RPC enabled in wp-admin under Settings->Writing? I've just been looking at the changes that we did for account signup in 2.1.1, and the app might not be returning the correct error when you don't have XML-RPC enabled...

  5. I have the same problem, I checked both XML-RPC and Atom Publishing Protocol, also tried the plugin to rename the xmlrpc, but unfortunately not work, can anyone help ?

  6. @weilytai I get an http 406 error when trying to load up your site in the app... not sure what that means, might be a config issue on your host?

  7. yup, become error 406 after i re-install the app

i asked the hosting, and they said they do not block xmlrpc
and they replied me the following when i ask for what "406 error means":

The resource identified by the request is only capable of generating response entities which have content characteristics not acceptable according to the accept headers sent in the request.

Unless it was a HEAD request, the response SHOULD include an entity containing a list of available entity characteristics and location(s) from which the user or user agent can choose the one most appropriate. The entity format is specified by the media type given in the Content-Type header field. Depending upon the format and the capabilities of the user agent, selection of the most appropriate choice MAY be performed automatically. However, this specification does not define any standard for such automatic selection.

Note: HTTP/1.1 servers are allowed to return responses which are not acceptable according to the accept headers sent in the request. In some cases, this may even be preferable to sending a
406 response. User agents are encouraged to inspect the headers of an incoming response to determine if it is acceptable.
If the response could be unacceptable, a user agent SHOULD temporarily stop receipt of more data and query the user for a decision on further actions.

  8. @weilytai - What is the URL of your blog?

@joepen5 - XML-RPC services are disabled on this site. An admin user can enable them at http://njmediagroup.com/site2/wp-admin/options-writing.php

  9. @weilytai - I tested the XML-RPC endpoint of your site here: http://blog.muserecreation.com/xmlrpc.php by using an XML-RPC Endpoint Validator tool (available here: http://www.eritreo.it) but got the 406 error. You should contact the webmaster of the site, or the web hosting provider, since there is something that blocks the XML-RPC protocol.

  10. i am unable to connect wordpress to my android phone it never seems to work

  11. @mancplumber -- what is the URL of your blog?

  12. I have the same problem.

I have an xperia Sola but the wordpress app never worked.

    My site is http://strangejournal.wordpress.com/

  13. oops..trying again

same issue android on motorolla rzr
wont accept login for remote hosted blog

    blog is:

xml-rpc box is checked in wp writting settings

    error says:

    Connection error
    org.xmlpull.v1.XmlPullParserException: unexpected type (position: TEXT {opacity:'show...@7:2 in java.io InputStreamReader@40735928)

    help needed...thx!

  14. @ToddfromCA - I think I see the issue. Your blog doesn't have the RSD meta tag, so the app fails at finding the xmlrpc.php file.

We'll get this fixed up in a future release, but for now you should be able to type foustonline.com/xmlrpc.php in the URL field to get it to work.

  15. That worked! thanks!

    Hi,

My website is http://www.gauravsangtani.com, I am also getting error " Could not connect. Please enter the full path to xmlrpc.php on your site and try again".

I am able to browse, http://gauravsangtani.com/xmlrpc.php getting message "XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only."

In url I am entering http://gauravsangtani.com/xmlrpc.php and gauravsangtani.com/xmlrpc.php still getting same error.

Any idea what can be issue? Contacted Host, they are saying its ok from their side.

    Regards,
    Gaurav

  17. I'm haing this problem too. my blog is http://www.sarahbayly.co.uk
the /xmlrpc.php page says "XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only."

Im having this problem on both my android tablet and iphone.

Any help would be great. thanks Sarah

  18. I have also tested this out on a website with no plugins and the default theme, and it still doesn't work!

  19. I have the same problem, read all the posts above but cant make it work still on my Android and iOS.

    link is http://www.elyassaeed.com

    Please help.

  20. Try using the tool at http://www.eritreo.it to see if it gives you any helpful error messages.

  21. @Dan thanks for your reply.

It gives me a 404 message, but the website is working and the xmlrpc.php is giving "XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only."

  22. I made a test request to your site and an empty response came back, is your xmlrpc.php file up to date on your site? You've tried disabling plugins?

  23. @Dan, its a fresh install (one week only). Do you know where I can get an up to date xmlrpc.php file?

I disabled all plugins (will leave them so, so you can test again).

    Let me know thanks

  24. As with Qandil, I just tried the http://www.eritreo.it and for both

    http://sarahbayly.co.uk AND http://sarahbayly.co.uk/xmlrpc.php
it both came back "404 NOT FOUND"
however if I go to the url's directly they work and the xmlrpc.php is giving "XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only."

PLEASE PLEASE help ... I just bought a tablet specifically to update my blog, and am going crazy to get the silly thing to work!

    Many thanks, Sarah

  25. Can you check with your web host to make sure that they allow access to xmlrpc? Sometimes they block it for security reasons..
