"Force close" everytime I try to get to my account

  1. Hello,

I am running the latest App version on Android 1.5 (HTC Hero).

    Installation went without any problems.

While the app was connecting to my wordpress account for the first time it crashed ('Force Close'). and since then, every time I try to get to my account the same thing happens ('Force Close').

I try to uninstall / install, and it didn't help.

I am lost, what am I missing ?

    Thanks a bunch!

  2. does it force close when it appears to be loading the comments tab?

  3. Yup, that what happened in the first time.

After that, it pulls the 'Force Close' error while still in the first 'Wordpress - Blogs' page.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

  4. btw, my password only includes lower and upper case and numbers (so i guess its not the special characters in the password thing).

I'm using wordpress in hebrew - could that be the problem ?

  5. Can you install the 'Log Collector' app from the market and email your log to android at automattic dot com?

It could be the hebrew characters, but I know we have a few users that are using the app w/ their hebrew blog just fine.

  6. Will do that, thanks a bunch!

  7. Getting the same thing on a Hero running 1.5 with WP1.3. I have 2 accounts on different WP sites, the other one works fine. Both have numerical passwords. 'Stops responding' as soon as choosing what account to connect to. Worked fine on 1.2. Getting some logs if you want them...

  8. @twoayem - I think there might be a specific issue with the older hero device on 1.5. I'm doing some research with another user and will get back to you.

  9. Hi,

I have the same problem in Spanish with an HTC Desire 2.1 and Wordpress 1.3 (and also happened with the old version)

Every time I´ve tried to access, I´ve found that message. My wife has another Desire and she has the same problem.

    Anybody know what happens?

    Thank you for your help.

  10. @zicoland - If your password has special characters in it, try changing it to something else.

  11. Same issue: Wordpress in Hebrew - crashes in comments tab the first time, never makes it there afterwards. No special signs in passwords. Cupcake on Samsung Galaxy.
However, I'm getting the same with an English Wordpress instalation, alpha-numeric password. Repeatable when I change locale to en_US, just to be safe.
    I'd appreciate any help.

  12. Hmm, it appears that the Hero may not have enough memory to support the fourth tab we added for stats...

  13. mrroundhill, if you were referring to my report, I'm not using the Hero - I'm using Samsung Galaxy, and have had this problem ever since version 1.0.

  14. Ok, does your device officially support Hebrew? I'm not sure if Android supports that language yet.

  15. It is fully localized and running of a Hebrew locale.

  16. Hmm, the second account loads absolutely fine, including the stats tab. After a reinstall the tabs open ok, only once the comments have loaded that it bombs out and refuses to open again. Wondering if it's one of the comments that's causing the problem...

  17. Getting somewhere. Removed an ' from the post title of the third most recent comment (Was using "it's", now changed to "its" and the comments page loads. It now only crashes if I try and scroll down to see more comments, possibly another issue somewhere.

Can confirm all other tabs are working OK though. This is on Hero running Android 1.5, Wordress for Android 1.3 and Wordpress 3.0. Editing Posts with apostrophes in the title works OK.

  18. installed 1.3.1 just now on my hero running 1.5, added my account, and i experience the same issue mentioned above. my blog is in english and my password is alphanumeric with no special characters. When i click my blog to connect it starts loading, then appears to freeze up, then it appears to load for a split second, then force close. After that it doesnt even make it to the blog page, it FC as soon as i click my blog. Uninstalled / re-installed with same issue. I see a lot of people here with same problem but no solution... any input?

  19. googled the crap out of this, including wordpress for android apps comments and apparently this app doesnt work with hero. I found HUNDREDS of people with hero that have same issue. I did NOT find anyone who has had this app work on hero.

too bad i really could have used it.

    uninstalled.

  20. Firstly, I want to say that, up until now, this app has been great and I thank you wholeheartedly for developing it and then letting us have it for free! Truly altruistic.

However, it seems I'm not alone in my new frustration! Here is my experience with WP for Android 1.3.1 on my HTC Hero running Android 1.5. I'm running WP3.0 on the server too and it's self-hosted.

1 - Installed the update (the previous version worked fine).

2 - Went in to make a post, seemed to connect to the blog fine, started loading comments then errored (Forced Quit).

3 - Tried quitting the app and reopening. Didn't even get as far as loading the comments - when I selected the blog to open it simply Forced Quit again.

4 - Tried shutting down the phone and starting up again. Same as result as 3.

5 - Uninstalled the app and reinstalled.

6 - Upon entering my account details to set it up again I kept getting a user/password error. Having entered the password 5 times I found the thread about non-alphanumeric characters (which worked fine before) so I changed my password to something less secure.

7 - I seemed to login OK but then I got the same result as 2.

8 - Tried to connect to the blog again but get the same error as 3.

I fear I could be caught in some kind of infinite loop of errors and reinstalling apps!

I don't know if all that helps but thought I'd let you know what I tried in order to get it to work again.

It's a shame as I'm about to be away from home for a while so was looking forward to blogging from the road using this app.

  21. @UBERandom - Working fine(ish) on Hero 1.5 here.

Make sure you don't have any apostrophes in the titles of the posts that the three most recent comments have been posted on. I have found this will let me into WPfA 1.3.1 (and 1.3 for that matter) and the rest of the app works fine.

Having updated to 1.3.1 I tried reintroducing a ' into a recently commented post's title and again goes to crash on launch (after refreshing the comments), so this is definitely part of the issue. Removed the ' and after deleting and re-adding the blog, the first 3 comments load as normal, but again any attempt to scroll down to past these comments causes a force close.

Should point out both the blogs I have are self-hosted and the other one opens flawlessly. Added the official WP.com stats package yesterday to both sites and can confirm it's working fine on my Hero 1.5.

  22. I found a hero emulator online, will try and reproduce the single quote crash. @UBERandom, we'll get it fixed :)

  23. Hey Hero owners! Try out this build to see if it fixes your issue:

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/334957/WordPress-1.3.2.apk

  24. @twoayem no single quotes or apostraphes in any blog titles, however i do have a couple dashes, so i removed them.

@mrroundhill i tried the 1.3.2 build and got exactly the same results as 1.3.1, identical results to @Weon. I will uninstall, reinstall, and double check the post titles for single quotes and dashes and post results here. It's really cool you reply so fast with some options though, so I will patiently wait for this app to work on my phone cuz I REALLY NEED IT lol. THANKS!

  25. ok so i removed the dashes from my post titles (-) , uninstalled the 1.3.2 build, and reinstalled. Opened it up aaaaaaand... TADAAAA! yay it is working! I am going to presume it was removing the dashes that made the difference because im really just too lazy to troubleshoot this, and now that its working i dont wanna uninstall it lol. Thanks for a great job! I will post any future issues, but for now I am extremely pleased. Thank you mrroundhill.

  26. additional note - the stats tab repeatedly asks for username/password even though i am positive they are correctly entered. I have seen this issue mentioned before so i will research.

  27. bah...

"Only fools are positive." - Unknown

When using the stats tab you must enter your wordpress.com username and password, not your blog username and password. Found that out with a simple search on this site.

Everything works fine now, but I would advise you that if you are going to use this app, do not include any single quotes or dashes in your post titles. Any comments on these posts, when loaded, will result in a force close.

I removed ALL dashes and single quotes from ANY and ALL post titles, and the app works flawlessly now, stats and all.

Extremely pleased with the app and will rate it 5 stars immediately :D

  28. Ok cool! I fixed the issue for single and double quotes but didn't think about dashes. I'll get on fixing those as well. If you notice any other characters crashing it, please let me know.

I would advise you that if you are going to use this app, do not include any single quotes or dashes in your post titles.

This is only occuring for those on HTC Sense with Android 1.5, just FYI for the other folks reading.

  29. I've uploaded a new build that should strip out all of the nasty characters that seem to be causing this issue. Same link as above. Give it a go please! If someone has sense on a 1.5 HTC Magic, it'd be super helpful if they could test this out for me.

  30. OK, with 1.3.2 my English Wordpress account works well, but my Hebrew Wordpress account still crashes before comments tab even. Maybe it's the Hebrew characters, maybe they do whatever it is the dash sign did?
