Force Close After Upgrade
-
Just upgraded to the latest version from marketplace today. I am trying to add a picture to a new post and just cant do it. When I take a new picture I get a force close every time and end up on the last screen I was at before creating the new post.
When I try to bring in a picture already taken outside of the app the photo shows up under Media. I then make sure everything else is set how I want, then check box for publish and click save. It attempts to upload the media then fails. I get a message along the lines that the post was uploaded, but not the medial. I tried this about 3 or 4 times and got the same thing.
I then created a local draft and saved. Added the picture, then saved. Then check publish and saved. Then uploaded to the blog. This time the picture uploaded with the post.
Was it just a fluke that the media wasn't uploading?

Which device are you on? (don't say incredible)
Strange that it didn't work and then did after another try. It could be that the app is having problems with taking pictures, not selecting them from the gallery? Were you uploading via wifi or on a mobile network? If you were on a mobile network, was it 3G?

Sorry I didn't post enough info the first time, hope this helps...
Phone:
HTC Hero (Sprint) with custom 2.1 rom rooted.Everything on the phone is faster with 2.1, but for some reason this apps seems to be much slower after the upgrading the application. It is not as responsive once I add a picture from the gallery.
Issue:
Taking pictures, or uploading pics from SD card fail. The steps I outlined above worked once, but do not seem to work all the time. I have upload issues on 3g and WiFi. I have not tried video to see if that works. Is it possible there could be an issue with my webserver? I would hesitate to think so since the old version of your app seemed to work flawlessly.

Ok, you may want to uninstall and reinstall the app to see if that helps.
Are you getting the 'post uploaded but encountered an error with media' message?
-
Thanks for your help mrroundhill!
I uninstalled and still have the same problems. It appears there are two things going on. 1) I try to add a photo and get a force close. This doesn't always happen, and if I get past the error the app seems useable. 2) I get the error message you mention above once I have added the photo and try to upload post: "post uploaded but encountered an error with media".

Sorry for the double dip, but I just realized that you might not have a Hero to work on. If so let me know as I would be more than willing to try and tweaked versions of your app to see if they fix the issue. If you know how to get any debugging info from the phone too let me know. I might be able to help there too.

@webs05 - you're right, I don't have one to test on. Can you try out the latest build that we have in testing? You'll need to uninstall the app and then visit this URL from your device and select the 'downloading' link:

Okay I got the version 1.2.1 installed. And it worked great when pulling in a picture I had already taken. For instance, going to the gallery and choosing a picture, saving the post, and then uploading.
But when I try to take a new picture from the camera itself to add to the post I get a force close which kicks me back to the screen I was at before creating the new post. So if I was in the "Posts" tab I get sent there.
This will get me by for now till the other feature is fixed though...

I think it might be the custom ROM you are running, do other apps work ok that do the same thing, like the twitter app?
-
I will check and see if there is an update to the ROM, but I would not suspect the ROM to be the issue since the app worked before the update to the latest version. I will admit there has been two updates to the custom ROM since then so it is a possibility.
Thanks for your help, I guess I will just take the picture first outside of your app then create the post. As that seems to cause no problems.
